Everyone has goals they would like to achieve. In almost every case, being able to reach your goals requires some amount of money - so saving money is a necessity. Learning how you can find money within your budget to save towards meeting your goals is the purpose of this lesson.

You probably know exactly how much money you receive each month. Do you also know exactly how much you spend? Few of us do.

Why is it important to know how much you make and spend? Because once you know the answers, you can identify areas of your budget that can be modified, if necessary, to help you find money to fund your goals.

Let’s begin with a few basic principles that are key to taking charge of your personal finances and meeting personal financial goals.


There is no correct answer. You simply need to understand your money habits (and if applicable, the habits of your spouse or significant other) in order to make conscious decisions about spending and saving. If you are a saver, but your spouse is a spender (which is often the case – opposites do attract), then you will need to work out your differences to come to a realistic solution to contain the spender and possibly “loosen up” the saver.
